Classic hardware, measured and rebuilt.

Neva DSP models classic studio gear one circuit at a time. Our first plug-in, PINCH-76, covers four revisions of the classic FET compressor, and the bench measurements for each one are printed in its manual.

A FET compressor in four revisions.

Rev A for drums that should bite, Rev D (LN) for clean vocals, Rev F when a part has to cut through, AE for the mix bus. Switch while the track plays: AUTO GAIN holds the level, so you hear the colour change and not a jump in volume.

  • Four revisionsAt 1 kHz Rev A measures about three times the distortion of the other three. AE adds a 2:1 ratio and a 10 ms attack for buses.
  • A second unitPut unit 2 after unit 1 or beside it, each in its own revision. A fast Rev A into a slow Rev D (LN) is a classic vocal chain.
  • L/R and M/SSet the mid and the sides, or left and right, on their own. Useful when the vocal jumps but the wide guitars should stay open.

What we check before a release.

Every revision goes through the same bench tests, and the results are in the manual for anyone to read.

The bench

Frequency response, harmonics at each input level, attack and release timing and gain reduction curves, measured for all four revisions.

Light on the CPU

About 1.4 % of one CPU core for a stereo instance at 2x oversampling (0.77 % at 1x), with 3 samples of latency at 2x. Heavier oversampling is there for the final render.

A licence that stays out of the way

No dongle and no subscription. One licence covers three computers, and the plug-in works offline for 30 days at a time.

Try it on a session you know.

The trial runs for 14 days with every feature unlocked. When it ends, the plug-in passes audio through until you activate, so your sessions still open.
